How to Clean Your Pool Noodles
Pool noodles are a great tool for people to learn how to swim, especially kids. They are easy to use and incredibly safe, lightweight, and easy to store. However, much like other pool toys, they should be cleaned from time to time. This does not need to be done frequently. However, pool noodles can be exposed to dirt, rain, and other elements that may warrant a cleaning.
Here is how to clean your pool noodles in four easy steps:
There are three main ingredients that can be used to clean pool noodles, floats, and toys, aside from water: baking soda, white vinegar, and bleach. A combination of water and white vinegar or baking soda is a great option for cleaning pool noodles in a safe and effective way. Bleach can be used for more intense disinfecting, such as if objects have accumulated mould. However, do take note that bleach will cause discoloration.
It is important to handle these cleaning solutions with care. Wear gloves and a facemask to protect your skin and be shielded against fumes, which may arise from both white vinegar and bleach. Then, follow these steps:
1. Mix up you cleaning solution of choice with warm water. For pool noodles, a gentle solution is preferred, so make sure you do not exceed more than a quarter cup of cleaning solution for every quart of water.
2. Soak the items in the solution, or use a soft sponge to tackle more stubborn dirt.
3. Rinse down the item with plain water.
4. Leave the objects to sun dry.
Make sure your objects are free of cleaning solution before placing them back in the pool. When they are not in use, store them in a cool, dry place. Wooden or plastic storage containers are a good option, which can then be kept in a shed or storeroom, provided there is little sun exposure and little risk of water contamination. A moist environment will lead to the development of mould, counteracting your cleaning efforts.
