Installing Window or Door Screens Properly and Securely

January 24, 2020

Have you been constantly noticing leaves, insects, and other debris in your home? Then it might be time to consider installing screens on your doors and windows. They are easy to install and can make a world of difference in preventing you from experiencing those little annoyances. Here are some tips to ensure that installation is a breeze:

Installing a Window Screen

A screening spline is placed between the window screen fabric and the frames. Once correctly installed, the spline forms a tight seal on the screen, holding it securely in place all throughout the seasons, even when the screens expand or contract. The screening spline helps extend the life of your window or door screen and will help you save time and money in the future.

Installing the Spline

One crucial thing to keep in mind when installing door and window screens is that the spline function is mainly dependent on how well you perform its installation. There are some important steps to follow to ensure it is done properly.

Before anything is started, the measurements of the width and height of the screen must be taken correctly. Next is to consider which type of material is best to use for the spline. If you want to easily and conveniently compress and fit the spline into the screen’s groove, a foam screen spline would be the ideal choice. The second step you should do is to remove the damaged screen by simply locating the outer edges and pulling it out from its frame.

Finally, install the new screening spline with the fitted measurements taken earlier. Spread it out with a few inches over the frame and then cut it in the right fit to cover the size of the frame. Don’t forget to use a special spline installation tool in order to properly install it in place. Once that is done, just cut off any excess to clean up the screen.
